Mr. and Mrs. Eller decided to build their dream home. They took great care and planned out every phase of the
construction process. They were very concerned with the rising cost of energy, so they chose to build an Energy Star
rated home. Jeff Raynor Construction was chosen to construct their home using SIP's panels that have a R-30 insulation
rating. The heat pump chosen was a DX Geothermal model with a domestic water heating module.  Knowing that the
home construction envelope would be extremely tight, an ERV unit was installed to provide continuous ventilation and
supply fresh air to the home. A media filter was installed to assist Mrs. Eller with her allergies and the home was
constructed with hardwood and linoleum flooring to eliminate excess dust. Double pane Low E windows were installed
along with R-38 insulation in the attic and R-19 in the floor.

The mechanical system included the air handler located in the attic with sheet metal supply trunk lines sealed to
eliminate air leakage. The duct was externally wrapped with R-6 duct wrap to increase the indoor air quality. The DWHM
and ERV units were located in the Master Closet. The compressor section was located in the back next to the patio.
That's right...beside the patio! These systems are so quite that you hardly know when they are on.

The end result is home that scored a 94 on the Energy Star Rating with an infiltration rate of .2! The mechanical system
scored less than 6% duct leakage. Considering that the average home has more than a .5 infiltration rate and 30-60+%
duct leakage, it is easy to see why this home will pay dividends immediately in energy savings. The home maintains 50%
RH at 78°F during the Summer months and 35-40% RH at 72°F during the Winter months without a humidifier. Room
temperatures vary no more than 2° from one end of the home to the other!
